Our aim is to explore many different aspects of Family History, including different methods of research, different methods of record-keeping, and different focus interests. While a laptop and signing up to a subscription website such as Ancestry or FindMyPast would be useful, it is not essential. Ledbury Library subscribes to Ancestry UK, and there are other ways to find information.
Our meetings are very lively and enthusiastic. Usually we decide on a topic in advance for the following meeting, such as discussing how we might use AI, how DNA works, or how we organise our research. Often one of us will give a talk about a subject of particular interest to them, and this always generates much discussion. Occasionally we welcome a visitor to present a subject. Recent talks have included The Lives of my Canal Ancestors, My Russian Great Grandfather, and we have several more in the pipeline."
It's important to note that the leader is not a tutor, so it's expected that the group will work collaboratively. We are each at different levels of expertise - so we welcome both experienced family historians and beginners.
